I has got a new telephone! It is red and shiny and has one of those slide-out keyboards. It also (hopefully) will ring, and display the text when someone texts me! My old one hasn't done that for months, and then the charger started going. Also my new phone is new and shiny and has a better camera, and does video and audio, and more importantly comes with a USB cable and a memory card so I don't have to pay $5 to get pictures off the camera! Also it occurs to me that since I pay my own phone bill, nobody but me is going to be sorry if I decide to try the internet on my phone. So perhaps I will! Meanwhile, everybody text me so I can try replying on the qwerty keyboard and figure out the whole auto-text thing. I am very bad at it.

Also, there is a stray cat in the neighborhood who is very nice and friendly. A fluffy, fat brown-and-black tabby of the blotchy persuasion. He(?) used to be somebody's, since he is snipped and declawed and knows how to work cat doors, and is very friendly even to other cats. He mostly lives on the next-door-neighbors' front porch, where they gave him food and a towel to sit on, and he also comes and visits us. He is quiet and sneaky, and comes into the kitchen, eats all the food out, and leaves again. Last night when I got home from work my parents were watching TV in the family room with my cat, and none of them had noticed the visitor-cat ten feet away. He didn't leave until he'd eaten all the crunchies, gotten petted, and sung us a sad little cat-song.

Xavier people: is anybody else going to Sam's wedding who would like to split a hotel room? I'd love to go, but won't be able to if I have to spend two weeks' paycheck per night (plus meals, plane, etc). You know, I think all you Xavier people are on Facebook. I should check that out.

And now back to Syntax homework. It makes me want to find Noam Chomsky and hit him with something very heavy.

ETA: OK, so maybe not on the phone. When I try to make a call, I get a message saying they cannot verify/authenticate/somethingorother my account. Will go angrily to the Sprint store tomorrow, but meanwhile I probably cannot receive any calls/texts.

Wait, you pay your own phone bill? When did that happen? Dad still pays mine.

I pay some "rent" each month, which basically consists of my portion of phone and groceries, minus any out-of-pocket groceries (such as when I run to the store and put only a $1.80 bag of potatoes on my debit card). I am pretty sure this is Mom's main source of income.

Huh. So, uh, when they said 'get a real college program or we'll charge you rent,' they lied?

I can't help much with airfare (I don't actually start working and making money until June) but if hotel costs are keeping you back, I can probably figure something out so you could crash with someone here in Chicago...
